Meet the Staff...

Pilot Officer (RAFAC) S Khan
Deputy OC

Pilot Officer Khan joined the RAFAC in 2020. Always having an interest in the military and aviation he had the opportunity to join 1263 Rochdale Squadron when his 2 sons joined up as cadets. PO Khan joined up as a civilian instructor where he assisted in the roles as adjutant and training of the squadron as well as everyday running of the Rochdale ATC. In the time soon after joining we went through Covid. In this time all squadrons were stood down and Virtual parade nights were put on Teams were PO Khan with the help of the OC, staff and cadets was involved in making interesting topics and activities for cadets to take part in while they could not parade physically. Upon opening the concentration was put on recruitment , ongoing training and development where PO Khan stepped in as Adjutant and with the unit staff worked on the training programs and assisted in the role as training officer. Since then PO Khan worked on personal qualifications and training through the ATC and beyond, taking an active role as permanent staff member at Rochdale 1263 squadron. 2022 was and turning point where PO Khan went into uniform and went through the challenging application for this transition. Since early 2023 PO Khan joined the Wing Recruitment Team where he conducts Onboarding interviews for future CI's joining in the area and assist the CI from the start to the end of their probation period. This shows that dedication and commitment can make a parent into a Civilian Instructor into becoming a volunteer uniformed staff in the RAFAC where you can become an active participant with roles and responsibilities that can make a difference to yourself and everyone around you.

In his role of Flight Sergeant he lead a team of 7 NCO's developing them into future leaders that are well-prepared to uphold the standards he set. During his time as a cadet some of his key highlights were: completing his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Achieving the Advanced Marksman Badge (Air Rifle) amongst other shooting achievements. Participating in the parade at Menin Gate (Belgium) to mark the RAF's 100th Anniversary. Participating in the 2019 Nijmegen Marches (Netherlands) and therefore achieving the Gold Road Marching Badge. These were some of the many achievements that CI Brown achieved in his long cadet career with too many to name, making him well equipped for his new role as Training Officer.
